Manager, Marine Climate Change

Conservation Strategies - Climate Change 
Reports to: Senior Technical Advisor 
Virginia

Conservation International’s marine program is seeking a manager to oversee day to day implementation of our rapidly expanding marine climate change program, ensuring success for our science and field implementation outcomes. This includes vulnerability assessments and key biodiversity adaptation projects in priority marine sites around the world, a program of applied natural and socio-economic science focused on developing adaptation tools for marine biodiversity and human well being, and marine climate change conservation workshops and meetings. The Manager will work closely with CI field teams in marine regions around the world and with our academic and conservation partners. The position will also support development of CI's global and regional level strategies for addressing marine climate change, and provide key technical support to CI's marine regions and other programs. This position will provide essential coordination between CI marine staff and partners, providing guidance on how they can best contribute to the marine climate change program.  

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Day to day technical and organizational oversight of marine climate change vulnerability assessments in priority marine regions globally
  • Technical and organizational management of workshops/symposia
  • Coordination and support of CI's marine climate change research activities, including coordination with the Marine Management Area Science Program and the Climate Change Program within the Center for Applied Biodiversity Science (CABS).
  •  Coordination and support of CI's marine climate change field activities
  • Technical and fundraising support of CI's regional field programs, including proposal and report preparation, literature-based research and other key tasks
  • Support engagement of CI Headquarters staff in the marine climate change program.

Working Conditions: The position may require up to 25% international and domestic travel.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Required Skills:

  • Bachelor’s degree in climate change, marine conservation, biological or environmental discipline with 3-5 years related work experience or advanced degree with at least one year related work experience
  • Knowledge of climate change adaptation and research methods
  • Knowledge of climate change impacts on the ocean and marine biodiversity
  • Strong organizational and financial management skills
  • Proven ability to engage and collaborate with diverse teams and individuals across various disciplines, cultures and backgrounds to achieve shared goals
  • Ability to work well independently and coordinate teams remotely.
  • Ability to deliver results while managing competing priorities under tight deadlines
  • Strong written and oral English communication skills.

Preferred Skills:

Fluency in written and spoken Spanish.
