Senior Manager, Public Funding

Virginia

Conservation International's Center for Conservation and Government (CCG) is seeking a flexible, proactive contributor to support CI's proposal development and fundraising activities, focusing primarily on multilateral donors in their Public Funding team. CCG seeks to promote innovative solutions that enable governments to take critical actions to conserve biodiversity, strategically targeting climate change as an issue with a great impact on biodiversity conservation. Reporting to the Senior Director, the Senior Manager for Public Funding will participate in the achievement of the Public Funding team's goals of supporting CI's field programs with identifying new sources of funding and accessing bilateral and multilateral funds through proposal review, reporting and information sharing.

In collaboration with CI programs, she/he will support CI colleagues in accessing multilateral funds and coordinate the development of project proposals related to  biodiversity conservation and climate change. The Senior Manager will ensure that CI field programs are informed of funding opportunities and developments in multilateral institutions that directly affect the field program's acitivities. Utilizing strong communication and engagement skills, the Senior Manager for Public Funding will work with donor representatives and partner organizations, representing Conservation International as appropriate.    

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide advice and guidance to CI programs in preparing proposals to multilateral donors, focusing particularly on such institutions as the African Development Bank, Asian Development Bank, International Tropical Timber Organization, UN agencies and World Bank
  • Review, edit and comment on proposals to ensure compliance with donor priorities and proposal requirements
  • Research and identify possible new funding opportunities, gathering information on funding priorities, requirements and proposal processes
  • Participate in the Public Funding team's training program for CI field programs by developing training materials for relevant donors and leading and participating in training and follow-up activities
  • Provide input to Conservation International's fundraising database on fundraising activities and interactions with relevant donors
  • Approximately 10% international and domestic travel required as needed

QUALIFICATIONS:

Required Skills: 

  • Masters degree, preferably related to the environment and/or natural resources management, with a minimum of five years of relevant work experience in proposal development and fundraising from multilateral donor institutions and/or proposal review and project management within a multilateral donor institution; or equivalent combination
  • Familiarity with basic operational and funding practices of the principal multilateral donor institutions, including the World Bank and regional development banks and/or UN agencies
  • Excellent writing and editing skills
  • Strong communications skills
  • Ability to give constructive feedback
  • Understanding (or experience) in non-profit/NGO
  • Proven ability to engage and collaborate with individuals across various disciplines, cultures and backgrounds to achieve shared goals

Preferred Skills:

  • Ability to read, write and speak French and/or Spanish preferred
  • Experience providing training (formal or informal) in proposal development preferred
