Conservation International is seeking an Advisor for Climate Change Adaptation to support the Land Use Strategies Program in advancing its activities in climate change adaptation. As part of the Conservation Strategies Division, the Land Use Strategies Program supports CI’s field programs in the design and implementation of conservation programs that involve communities as well as the agricultural, agroforestry and forestry areas under their management. The Program also supports the institution with the development of strategies to conserve biodiversity in human-dominated landscapes.
The Advisor, Climate Change Adaptation will support CI field programs in the development and implementation of projects and strategies to increase the resilience of landscapes including their biodiversity and livelihoods to climate change. In coordination with related programs in the Conservation Strategies Division and CI’s Center for Applied Biodiversity Science, the position will support field programs in adapting their conservation strategies to the relevant medium term climate change scenarios. The position will also promote an improved understanding within CI field programs and partners of the impacts of climate change on land use and livelihoods and their repercussions on natural ecosystems. The position will develop and participate actively in scientific partnerships and will play a lead role in the development of funding proposals in the field of climate change adaptation.
RESPONSIBILITIES:

Collaborate with CI field programs and partners on needs and opportunities to adapt conservation strategies for increased resilience to climate change

Promote research into the effects of climate change on livelihoods and land uses and their impacts on natural ecosystems through internal ad external partnerships

Promote a learning process within Conservation International to develop and refine climate change adaptation strategies
- Lead the identification, development and stewardship of funding proposals in the field of climate change adaptation
Working Conditions: Position requires up to 30% international and domestic travel.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Required Skills:

Experience in the analysis of climate change scenarios and their impacts on human and natural communities in tropical countries using interdisciplinary approaches

Experience in conducting and supervising land use research in tropical countries, analyzing data and publishing results

Solid understanding of tropical land use practices

Proven ability to engage and collaborate with individuals across various disciplines, cultures and backgrounds to achieve shared goals

Strong written and verbal communication skills
