Vice President, Corporate Relations

Reports to: Senior Vice President and Executive Director, CELB 
Virginia

Reporting to the Senior Vice President and Executive Director of Center for Environmental Leadership in Business (CELB), the Vice President, Corporate Relations is a leader within Conservation International and within CELB, one of the seven very important divisions within CI. The Vice President will lead CELB’s Conservation Investments team (see above for description of this team’s role and function) and share broad responsibility for the overall day-to-day management of CELB with the Vice President, Business Practices.

In serving as a leader within CELB, this individual draws upon, synthesizes and manages participation from all sectors of CI when necessary to ensure the success of the external business relationships. As an example, in a major corporate account relationship, the Vice President will integrate input from CI's divisions dealing with strategic marketing & global communications, regional programs, conservation science, and government policy, as well as CI's executive leadership and legal and finance departments, in all phases of the relationship – from concept stage to formal proposal to negotiated agreement to reporting on results.

In addition, this position chairs or serves on various CELB and CI teams dealing with organizational strategy, resources and governance. The Vice President has significant responsibility for reporting on the Center's performance to CI's Board of Directors, and has authority to represent CI and its views to the media and the public and will be required to travel as needed to corporate and NGO partner sites and to CI/CELB project sites in the field.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Specifically, the Vice President will:

  • Lead the creation and execution of institutional strategies to meet CI’s goals for corporate partnering
  • Lead the strategy and stewardship of 7-8 figure multiyear partnerships with Fortune 500 companies
  • Create and oversee internal systems and processes for effective management of corporate relationships
  • Work closely with other CI divisions, in particular Strategic Marketing & Global Communications, as well as the Resources Division, to maximize corporate support contributing to CI's fundraising and branding objectives
  • Represent CELB on CI's Resources Management Group overseeing institution-wide fundraising strategies and tactics
  • Oversee the CELB Account Team responsible for reviewing performance of corporate accounts, building campaigns to reach across multiple accounts, and evaluating account strategies
  • Participate on the CELB Management Team responsible for budget, financial, and administrative oversight of the division (chaired by SVP/Executive Director)
  • Participate on the CELB Strategy Team responsible for setting and reviewing the Center's strategy and annual work programs (chaired by VP, Business Practices)

QUALIFICATIONS:

The ideal candidate is an individual who wishes to assume a key leadership role in CI’s organization in forging strategic relationships with businesses committed to conservation.

Required Skills: 

  • A minimum of 10 years managerial experience in relationship building between the public and the private sector.
  • A demonstrated collaborative ability to work in team settings across cultures and internally within a diverse and dynamic institution.
  • A track record of establishing strong working relationships with senior executives within the private sector, NGO, and public sector communities.
  • Experience and excellence in leadership and management in multi-dimensional organizations
  • A track record of creating innovative strategies, partnerships, and programs without existing models.
  • Demonstrated fundraising experience.
  • A good working knowledge of private sector development and public policy, preferably on the environment at the international level.
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills.
  • Previously delivered results while managing competing priorities under tight deadlines.
  • Demonstrated business development and negotiation skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, presence and ability to effectively build strong relationships both internally and externally of the organization.
  • An excellent track record of growing and achieving sustainable results.
  • A reputation for high ethical standards and integrity.
  • A minimum of a four-year college degree is required; a master’s degree is preferred.
