Our oceans are among the most biological diverse places on Earth. The seas and all the resources they provide also play a vital role in the survival and well-being of people.
The Global Marine Partnership Fund is designed to simultaneously benefit marine species and the billions of people who would be impacted if the threats to the diversity and abundance of marine life are left unchecked.
We’ve set ourselves an ambitious fund-raising goal of $100 million for the fund to establish at least 10 new seascapes – large, multiple-use marine management areas including the most critical waters for conservation
DIG DEEPER: Safeguarding Hawaii’s Marine Environment
Our unique approach fosters collaboration at unprecedented scales by bringing together partners to craft a bold, common vision for each seascape and then providing grants to put the plan into action. It builds and expands on CI's extensive experience in safeguarding marine resources and in managing diverse funds for conservation.
With a grant from the Harold K. L. Castle Foundation, we have launched this exciting, new initiative in Hawaii. Marine habitats here are home to many unique species threatened with extinction, such as monk seals and humpback whales. We aim to enable effective and lasting marine management in Hawaii that balances diverse needs to benefit both people and nature.
The lessons from here will also guide us as we expand to seascapes around the world, creating a global movement to help save our seas.
